Asthamangala- The 8 Auspicious Symbols

There is a set of 8 auspicious prominently used in Tibetan Buddhism, which is known as Asthamangala, the Sanskrit word, meaning, the eight lucky or sacred symbols . These symbols are assumed to be the attributes of the goddess of Good fortune, Asthamangaladevi. The Buddhists often see these 8 symbols as a focal point of meditation and contemplation. They can traditionally listed in the order of: 

A parasol(Chattra) : royalty and spiritual power

A pair of golden fishes(Matsyayugma) : good fortune, fertility and salvation

A treasure vase(Kalash) : spiritual and material abundance

A lotus(Padma) : mental and spiritual purity

A conch shell(Sankha) : the fame of Buddha’s teaching

An endless knot(Shrivasta) : Infinite wisdom of the Buddha

A victorious banner(Dhwaja): the victory of the Buddha’s teachings

These eight auspicious symbols are found printed on the Tibetan prayer flags, Mandalas,Thangkas, Gongs, Singing bowls, etc as the fine artwork decoration.
